Bailey Hall Renovation

SUNY Geneseo wanted to turn their existing science building into a center for all their social sciences. SWBR developed a design to transform the building into a modern, comfortable, sustainable facility.

The original structure was gutted, its wing, greenhouse and penthouse removed. A new classroom addition was built, connected to the old building via a 2-story, skylighted atrium that acts as common space. The original building was reconfigured into a mix of small classrooms, offices, state-of-the-art labs, support and multipurpose rooms. The subterranean level houses labs with special lighting and access requirements, and a majority of the building’s systems. High performance systems, devices, and materials make the building sustainable, earning it LEED Silver certification.
