SWBR Recognized with Two NY Upstate ASLA Awards

SWBR has been recognized with two awards by the New York Upstate Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. The annual awards program recognizes a full spectrum of innovative landscape architecture projects.

The Lake House on Canandaigua received a Merit Award of Achievement in Built Design and the Climate Action Award for leadership in sustainable, resilient, and climate-forward landscape architecture. Completed in 2021, the 100,000-square-foot luxury resort reimagined a former restaurant and conference center into a premier lakeside destination, with SWBR and New York-based Studio Tack collaborating to transform the site.

Designed as a walkable campus, the landscape design draws inspiration from local vineyards with a chip-and-seal road, wildflower plantings, and a kitchen garden for farm-to-table dining. Preserved trees frame lake views, while natural stone and timeless design reflect the region’s casual, elegant lake culture.

Sustainable design elements include maximizing green spaces along the lakefront, using varied planting palettes to promote biodiversity, and establishing an on-site kitchen garden to support a farm-to-table ethos and reduce carbon footprint. These initiatives also integrate environmental education, foster community engagement, and advance ecological health and environmental equity.

The NY Upstate ASLA Annual Awards Reception was held Friday, April 25 in Utica, New York.
