Governor Cuomo Announces SWBR Winner of Buffalo Skyway Competition
Our team’s “City of Lights: Re-View our Waterfront” submission, including Fisher Associates and MRB Group, has been awarded first-place in the Buffalo Skyway Corridor Competition.
The competition received over 100 entries from across the country – reimagining the four mile corridor from downtown to Lackawanna and building on the momentum that has transformed the city over the past eight years. On September 17, nine finalists pitched their ideas in front of a live audience and panel of judges as they competed for the top prize of $100,000. The winner was announced shortly after the presentations.
Our “City of Lights” design calls for taking what will remain of the Skyway bridge and transforming it into “SkyPark,” providing scenic views and recreational amenities. It also calls for a lift bridge to be built at Michigan Avenue to connect to the Outer Harbor.
“It’ll be a really nice experience when you’re just up there walking and looking at the skyline or the water,” said SWBR Landscape Architect and Urban Planner Bill Price, RLA.
