Brickstone by St. John’s

The concept behind St. John’s Brickstone community was to create a neighborhood where active seniors could easily connect with each other as well as their larger community. SWBR, in association with CSD Architects, designed the community based on the principles of New Urbanism.

The dense cluster-style layout of 40 apartments, 9 townhouses and 53 bungalows creates an intimate, safe, walkable neighborhood. The design incorporated the site’s extensive wetlands, connecting with its natural surroundings despite being in a busy part of Brighton. Building design offers a variety of masses, rooflines, colors, materials, textures and features, creating neighborhoods within neighborhoods. The Wintergarden and Village Square create the heart of the community. Street-facing retail space in the Village Square also serves the surrounding Brighton community. The Wintergarden, with its fireplace and floor to ceiling windows, offers a centralized community space for residents and visitors, while taking advantage of the neighborhood’s natural views.

Brickstone exemplifies the principles of New Urbanism, connecting neighbor with neighbor, humans with nature, and neighborhood with community. It enjoyed 100% occupancy immediately upon completion and continues to do so.
