ROCHESTER, NY – On April 8, 2026, SWBR joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester, Empire State Development, local leaders, and community members to celebrate the ribbon‑cutting of the newly renovated Teen Center at the Clubs’ headquarters on Genesee Street. Envisioned as the heart of teen programming, the updated facility provides a welcoming, purpose‑built home for learning, connection, and personal growth.
Although the building has long served as a cornerstone for youth engagement, Club leadership saw an opportunity to extend its impact through targeted upgrades designed to build confidence and expand programming potential.
That vision gained momentum with a $112K New York State investment, secured through the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council and announced in 2023 during a visit by Governor Kathy Hochul. Combined with assistance from local foundations and individual donors, more than $560K was reinvested to augment comfort, flexibility, and long‑term usability.
Our Commercial design team guided the transformation with minimal structural intervention, prioritizing strategic upgrades to finishes, millwork, and overall layout. The refreshed Center features new flooring and wall finishes, integrated computer stations, career exploration hubs that supplement workforce readiness initiatives, and a dedicated space for group viewing and movie nights.

The design also introduces an open-concept lounge for informal gatherings and shared experiences. A custom “gaming wall” integrates a range of video game consoles while concealing electrical infrastructure, with bright accents reinforcing a lively, youth‑tailored aesthetic.
“From the start, our goal was to create a space that truly works for the teens who will use it every day,” noted SWBR Principal Randy Sickler, AIA. “By rethinking how the Center functions — from study and hangout sessions to group learning and professional development — we were able to advance the Club’s mission in a way that feels both practical and uplifting.”
Founded in 1971, the Boys & Girls Clubs host over 30 programs aimed at nurturing character and life skills. The revitalized Center is well-equipped to build on that legacy, honoring the organization’s role as a trusted resource for Rochester’s next generation.
As Architect of Record, SWBR provided schematic design refinement, construction documentation, and construction administration, working closely with LeChase Construction (Construction Manager) to deliver an inclusive environment that will serve teens for years to come.
