South Street Apartments Breaks Ground in Glens Falls

On October 15, our design team joined Bonacio Development and state and local officials to celebrate the start of construction on South Street Apartments, a new 70-unit affordable housing development in the city of Glens Falls.

The $27 million project will provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes for individuals and families earning between 30 and 70 percent of the area median income. Twenty-two apartments will be reserved for individuals with developmental disabilities and youth experiencing homelessness, supported through coordinated services. The development also includes units that are accessible and equipped for people with mobility impairments, as well as hearing and visual impairments.

“Expanding access to affordable housing is essential to strengthening our communities and driving economic growth across New York,” said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. “South Street Apartments will provide quality homes, help revitalize downtown Glens Falls, and boost the local economy.”

The five-story all-electric building will also have a fitness center, an outdoor courtyard and fenced-in playground, as well as ample parking that includes a surface lot and a municipal agreement that allows residents to use a nearby garage. The development also includes units that are accessible and equipped for people with mobility impairments, as well as hearing and visual impairments.

The building will also include satellite space for SUNY Adirondack, which will be used for healthcare worker development.

SWBR is providing architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and structural engineering design services.
