On May 16, our design team joined YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County and state and local officials to celebrate the completion of Persimmon Place, a new emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness.
The renovated building, a former youth center, provides 12 units for families to recover and gain access to vital resources to help them move from homelessness to long-term stability. The space was designed to create a home-like environment with amenities including a full kitchen, playroom, and outdoor playground for children.

“Persimmon Place represents a critical step forward,” said Dr. Myra Henry, President & CEO YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County. “It will provide not just a roof, but a safe and supportive space for families in crisis. Each unit will offer privacy and dignity to parents and children while also connecting them to essential wraparound services — case management, job readiness support, mental health resources, and pathways to permanent housing.”
SWBR provided architectural, interior design, and structural engineering design services for the project.
