Construction has finished at Frances Apartments, an $11.8 million housing development in the Town of Sweden, near the Village of Brockport. The housing complex offers 56 affordable housing units with 14 of those providing services to families and persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The complex consists of seven two story buildings, with eight units per building. The property offers 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments and a community building.
State funding has been provided to support this important project. Senator Ortt was quoted as saying “The Office for People with Developmental Disabilites, at the state level, certainly is pushing forward with a vision that is very much tied to the idea of folks with developmental disabilities living in an integrated community setting right alongside people who are abled bodied.” The project is consistent with the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities’ Transformation Plan to provide Olmstead compiant, community based, integrated housing options for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live in the most integrated and least restrictive settings possible.
