Library Renovation

The Fairport Public Library needed improvements to keep up with the changing times, technology and needs of the community. Because the space is leased, no structural expansion could be made, so SWBR was engaged to renovate and reconfigure the existing space.

Renovations included relocating the main entrance for handicap accessibility and improved visibility. The internal entrance also moved, with new windows, seating and study rooms added to the perimeter to take advantage of natural light. Administrative office size was reduced to free up space. The Children’s and Teen areas were increased in size, and better enclosed for acoustic separation. Each area was given an identity – from comfy furniture and innovative finishes in the teen area to scaled-down furniture and a whimsical 4-foot high opening into the children’s room. Throughout, acoustics, wifi and IT systems were improved to accommodate new modern library amenities including self-checkout stations, new computers, and iPads.
