On October 9, our design team joined Rescue Mission and state and local officials to celebrate the groundbreaking of The Mission Exchange Building, a new $11.6 million expansion in downtown Syracuse. The project represents an important milestone in Rescue Mission’s continued commitment to serving vulnerable populations while enhancing the vitality of the surrounding community.
The new facility will house Rescue Mission’s administrative offices and provide dedicated areas for donation processing, allowing community contributions to be handled quickly and efficiently. The mixed-use space will integrate retail, office, and program areas that strengthen Rescue Mission’s ability to fulfill its mission of ending hunger and homelessness. The building will also add essential storage and operational capacity, supporting the continued growth of Rescue Mission’s services and community outreach.
The inclusion of retail storefronts along the street edge will help activate the corridor, strengthen neighborhood connections, and generate revenue to support ongoing programs. When complete, the facility will advance Rescue Mission’s goal of creating opportunities for stability, empowerment, and long-term impact.
Founded in 1887, Rescue Mission has served Central New York for more than 135 years, providing shelter, meals, and support to those in need.
SWBR is providing architectural, interior design, and structural engineering design services for the project.
