SWBR Wins COTE Citation for Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology Center

SWBR has been honored with a Committee on the Environment (COTE) Citation of Merit from the American Institute of Architects Central New York Chapter for its design of the SUNY Morrisville Agricultural and Clean Energy Technology (ACET) Center. The award recognizes projects that advance sustainable, equitable, and resilient environments through integrated environmental and social value.

Completed in 2021, the 34,000-SF center houses the college’s Agricultural Engineering/Diesel Technology and Renewable Energy programs, with real-world labs for wind, solar, hydro, biofuels, thermal energy, and a diesel garage for heavy equipment. A compact footprint, insulated envelope, radiant floors, and energy recovery systems achieve a 55.1 kBtu/sf EUI—over 52% energy savings. North-facing glazing maximizes daylight and reduces cooling, while hillside siting, stormwater planters, rain gardens, and native plantings lower heating needs and maintenance.

Jury Comment:
“Uses the design for excellence common app.  LEED 4.1 the goal. High consideration for sustainability.  The exterior entry and simple forms are pretty elegant considering the nature of what is going on inside.  I like the look at the manufacturing from inside to outside.  Well done.”

ACET brings hands-on learning together with advanced renewable energy labs to train students for the future of sustainable agriculture.

SWBR provided architecture and interior design servvices for the project. Our design team accepted the award at the annual AIA Central New York awards celebration, Friday, November 14 in Baldwinsville, NY.
