In 2016, RIT announced a new digital media initiative that could potentially catapult the region as a leader in the rapidly growing digital media industry. The program, a result of a public-private partnership between the school, state, community and industry leaders, will be based out of the new MAGIC Spell Studios, which will house all the school’s digital media disciplines.
SWBR is the design consultant for the new state-of-the-art facility, which will feature cutting-edge technology to create and commercialize computer gaming, film and animation, graphic design and imaging sciences projects. The new studio will also provide students a hands-on, high-tech environment from which they can launch their own companies in Rochester, fueling an industry that has taken hold locally with entrepreneurial enterprises.
MAGIC Spell Studios, slated to open Fall of 2018, will be the first commercialization studio of its kind in the Northeast. “I believe this initiative will contribute to the continuing transformation of our regional economy,” said William Destler, retired RIT President. “Thanks to a culture of innovation and technological expertise that has enabled this community to continually reinvent itself.”
