Wedgepointe

Wedgepointe

Wedgepointe is designed to create a healthy environment that sustains and promotes biodiversity while contributing and supporting the broader goals of the community. Vegetated roofs with indigenous slow growth grasses and groundcovers add a sense of beauty while drastically reducing storm water runoff. Maximizing natural ventilation was achieved throughout the site by studying the annual wind flow patterns and creating openings at each level of corridor bridges above the main building entry. Providing a proper path for site wind flow eliminates wind eddies that make the environment unpleasant and helps keep the air quality to a maximum.

The emotive qualities of the building materials are evident in the visually soft jatoba wood and slate-like cement fiber board panels. The tones and detailing are understated to serve as a backdrop for the natural beauty of the landscape and the framed views of the city around the site. The selected materials were favored because of their high recycled content, textural quality, and renewable, low process energy characteristics.

This project incorporates many ideas from Cascadia’s ‘Living Builiding Challenge” and is targeting a LEED-NC platinum certification level.
