Roberts Wesleyan College Academic Library

Roberts Wesleyan College Academic Library

Situated on a highly visible and prominent corner of the campus, the proposed B. Thomas Golisano Library will offer to Roberts Wesleyan College a symbol of higher learning and an image to build upon. The site is highly visible from both the campus green and the Administrative "FrontDoor".

The added verticality of a tower element to the library enhances the image of the entire campus as an institute for higher learning and religious education.

Architecturally, the presence the 44,000 square foot building provides will be one of substance, permanence, and respect. As no student union facility exists, the library will double as a "living room" for the college with both interior and exterior accommodations. The two-story atrium provides orientation and enables natural daylighting from above to penetrate both levels.

Exterior brick, split-face masonry, and pre-cast concrete have been selected to complement the varying colors of masonry found throughout the campus. Sustainable design techniques and materials are utilized throughout the entire design and ultimately contribute toward the client's goal of acquiring LEED Silver Certification.

The B. Thomas Golisano Library, dedicated in the fall of 2007, has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The $13M building is the first Silver-certified building on any college campus in Upstate New York and the first library in the state to achieve the Silver certification.
